There are issues related to the traditional production model applied to the civil construction context, mainly for planning, management and monitoring areas, which leads to a fragmented, opaque and variable production process. The Lean philosophy created in 1950 dovetails with the construction environment. Lean construction is the term used to designate this philosophy applied to the civil construction and was established based on the Toyota Production System. This study aims to evaluate the current condition of a construction company regarding the Lean construction concepts as well as understand their difficulties in order to apply the method. Was assessed the awareness of 4 employees and 1 client of a small building company located in Natal/RN through a questionary standardized according to the interviewed position composed by questions relative to the 11 Lean construction principles. After the questionary response's analysis, we elaborated a diagnostic of the methodology knowledge of each participant as well as of the whole company, which presented a lean index of 40 percent. In the final section of this study, best practices actions are briefly presented to increase construction control and transparency.
