Perfil epidemiológico da Leishmaniose Visceral no município de Paracatu-MG no período de 2007 a 2010

Objective: To analyze the visceral leishmaniasis epidemiological profile in Paracatu City, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Methods: This is an epidemiological descriptive study, developed in Paracatu city, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, based on visceral leishmaniasis notified to Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação between 2007 and 2010. The following variables of notification document were analyzed: age, sex, skin color (race), schooling in years, case type entrance, and disease evolution. Results: The mean of incidence coefficient in the period was 33/100.000 inhabitants. In total, were notified 56 female cases (43.8%) and 72 male cases (56.3%). Respect to situation of end cases, in all period, 87.5% cured and 4.7% died. The lethality coefficient in accumulated period was 3.7% to 11.9%. The important limitation of this study was the presence of variables without data in high proportion. Conclusion: The incidence of visceral leishmaniasis in Paracatu City was high when compared with the State and Country mean. On the other hand, the lethality coefficient was down, what direct the attention to improve the control strategy of disease by local health services.
