A utilização de exercícios de estabilização para a prevenção de entorses do tornozelo por inversão em atletas de voleibol: revisão da literatura

The ankle joint is susceptible to damage, it accounts for 25% of all sports injuries,
44% of injuries in volleyball. It is estimated that 78% of athletes have had at least an
ankle sprain throughout his career, among which are evidenced by inversion sprains,
which are of great clinical predominantly due to its high incidence and economic
costs, because of, entailed by the removal of daily activities limitation. The ankle
sprain rehabilitation is complex and approximately 40% of individuals with a history of
sprains suffer from some type of clinical instability, Therefore, the aim of this review
was. A narrative review of the literature of this study was performed by searching in
the databases PubMed, Medline, Lilacs and Scielo including articles with the
following keywords: proprioception, inversion ankle sprain and volleyball. The theme
of this research was conducted from April to July 2011, without restrictions on
publication date and language. For this review 33 studies were analyzed wich
contained the three keywords, highlighting those that focused on the development of
stabilization exercises in order to prevent ankle sprains in volleyball players. Due to
popularity of volleyball, the risk factors for injuries should be established to enable
the design of effective preventive measures to minimize the costs involved with
sports injuries. Based on literature, stabilization exercises were effective in ankle
sprains prevention , restoring joint stability mechanisms and therefore improving
athletes performance.
