Resumen
This monograph is a review of literature that seeks to identify and show the methods of handling the complications of maxillary sinus lifting, and propose alternative prophylactic in order to avoid them. We selected 34 articles and four textbooks to compose the structure of the research. The surgery of maxillary sinus lifting was first published in 1980 and is an established procedure for the rehabilitation of the atrophic posterior maxilla. Displays currently two main techniques: the osteotome technique and side wall technique. The major intraoperative complication of this surgery is the perforation of the sinus membrane which can occur in about 10% of cases. There are several forms of treatment for this complication as use of resorbable biomaterial, sutures, among others. Other complications are also treated as maxillary sinusitis, infections, wound dehiscence, implant loss. As a means of minimizing the risk of a complication, a good knowledge of the anatomy of the maxillary sinus, a good evaluation and preoperative planning, and new techniques and less traumatic devices are listed.
