Resumen
Phlebotomy is a complex and invasive procedure whose errors can compromise the quality of the test results and, consequently, the patients' health. The planned, systematic training and the follow-up of the professionals are necessary to verify the knowledge of the process and the procedures, skills and behavior, aiming at educational actions to guarantee good practices of blood sample collection. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of educational intervention on the phelebomists team regarding the reduction of specimens rejected collected and standardization of pre-analytical process in the Laboratory of Clinical Pathology of Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. This is an observational and interventional study, conducted in steps: historical analysis of rates and causes of blood sample rejected collected at the service; assessment of competence by direct observation; questionnaire application to know the profile of the team; theoretical educational training; monitoring of post-training recovery rates and standardization of the pre-analytical processes. The results were compared statistically, considering 95% CI and significance level p <0.05. Historical rates of service recovery increased from 0.39% (2013) to 1.1%, (2016). Theoretical educational training was offered to phlebotomists. There was a significant reduction in the rates post-training, from 0.99% to 0.77%, (p <0.009). The criteria for identification and notification of blood sample rejected in the Laboratory Information System was reviewed and expanded. The training admission and annual competence evaluation to all phlebotomists of the laboratory were introduced. In conclusion, the impact of the theoretical educational training on the phlebotomists was effective for reduction of specimens rejected and standardization of the pre-analytical processes.
