Resumen
The tooth decay is a disease that affects unfavorably the people's health in general and, in spite of it has prevention, it goes on being a serious problem of public health and one of the buccal diseases that most attacks the children in school age. The current study discusses the change in tooth decay indexes in schoolchildren from 6 to 12 years old, before and after the implantation of the Buccal Health Team (BHT) in the Family Health Program, in Senhora de Oliveira MG. It was used the data of a epidemiological survey accomplished in 2006 by request of the State Office of Minas Gerais (SOMG) at three schools of the city that had students in age group from 6 to 12 years old. In 2009, aiming to evaluate the changes in the prevalence of tooth decay after the implantation of the ESB it was accomplished a new survey using the same methodology proposed by the SESMG in 2006. It was evaluated the children that were there at the moment of the visit of the researcher at two schools located in urban area and one school located in a rural area, accomplishing a total of 420 students. The average of CPO-D (tooth decay, missing teeth and filled teeth) index to the age group in study it was 0,98 for the survey accomplished in 2006 and 0,66 for the survey accomplished in 2009, both below of the goal established by World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Dental Federation (IDF) for the year 2000 with regards to the age from 6 to 12 years old which is a CPO-D index less than or equal to 3. Such data point out that together with the collective steps, the actions implemented by ESB like the programs towards to preventive treatment, curative and educative; fluorinated rinsing mouth by the week at schools, collective actions of supervised dental brushing and topical application of fluor gel every six months; from among others, come reaching good results.
