Resumen
The discussion of the Information Management (IM) and Knowledge Management (KM) has
gained strength since the 80’s, becoming relevant to both private and public organizations. In
this context, this study aimed to analyze these processes in organizations, in the vision of the
Minas Gerais State Government, more specifically, the Secretary of State for Planning and
Management (SEPLAG), setting up a case study developed through bibliographical and
documentary research. The Information Management comes mainly from explicit knowledge,
contributing significantly to the promotion of competitive advantage and success of
organizations. The KM, in turn, is a dynamic, strategic and learning process in which
knowledge is created, shared and stored. It is noteworthy that Minas Gerais State
Government, in 2012, established its own knowledge management policy. The conclusions
indicate, generally, that despite these processes have been standing out over time,
especially through the use of innovative tools, they are still insufficient in the Secretary. It
was found that, both IM and KM are currently weak in SEPLAG, especially if the wish is to
return to a prominent position in which they were in 2012. That would require a favorable
organizational culture, top leadership support and relevant technological tools, to assist the
integration, transfer, sharing and storage of information and knowledge.
