Resumen
This study presents a review of the literature, and has the title The Achievement of Aesthetics in Adjacent Dental Implants". One of the biggest challenges in Oral Implantology nowadays, if not the most challenging, is to achieve success, not only the functional and biological, but also the aesthetical success, in the rehabilitating treatments involving implants-borne-prosthesis, in cases concerning multiple adjacent dental implants in the aesthetics areas of oral cavity. The present study had as the main objective to describe the techniques and factors involved in such subject. Hence, it was made a review of the literature through a reading of scientific papers published in specialized journals, with an electronic search in CAPES portal (www.periodicos. capes.gov.br), comprising the period of 1992 to 2012, and textbooks relevant to the topic. It was found that several factors are directly or indirectly involved in achieving this success. Among these, we can highlight the smile line, the periodontal biotype, the volume and size of the ridge and the neighboring natural teeth. Among the techniques discussed, the one that involves the concept of Platform-Switching, seems the most promising to date. It was concluded that achieving this success constitutes a major challenge to the clinician in implant dentistry, and rehabilitative treatment involving multiple dental adjacent implants located in the aesthetic zone, still has limitations regarding the creation of the complete interproximal papilla.
