This monograph has as its research object the teaching of Art as a central curricular component to work on diversity through the valorization of Afro-Brazilian culture in the 2nd cycle of Elementary Education of schools in the Municipal Network of Belo Horizonte. This monograph brings a theoretical research on the teaching of Art in the 2nd cycle according to Curricular Propositions, Law 10.639 / 2003 and the National Curriculum Guidelines for the Education of Ethnic-Racial Relations in addition to the Triangular Approach proposed by Ana Mae Barbosa. Discusses the contribution of Art in the implementation of the law in schools. It presents some reflections on Visual Arts and Education for ethnic-racial relations. It brings a survey of pedagogical practices that can guide the work done in schools with Afro-Brazilian culture also in an interdisciplinary way. In this sense, it is possible to conclude that Art favors the construction of positive self-esteem and the role of the student it creates when learning. Through the teaching of Art, it is also intended to identify, analyze and demystify racial relations in the school environment, as well as, to think about practices focusing on the constitution of racial stigma based on the individual's visibility of himself and externalizing them, in addition to to propose affirmative actions to strengthen students' identity, especially blacks.
