In this article we presents the history of information science from the different epistemological movements experienced by the area. Thus, the first movement that constituted the field is presented. Following are seven other movements: interdisciplinarity, cognitivism, postmodernity, constitution as a social science, decolonization, and the sociocultural perspective. It was concluded that such movements had as main results the widening of the discipline's scope of action, a greater attention to the complexity of informational phenomena and a better adaptation to the social and technological challenges that were presented, without the emptying or pulverization of the discipline.
