Chapéu-de-couro (Echinodorus grandiflorus e Echinodorus macrophyllus), is a medicinal plant of flooded areas with occurrence in a great part of the Brazilian territory. It is widely used due to its anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties. Plant extractivism supplies market, but it does not guarantee the chemical quality of the product, as well as it can cause population imbalance of the plant. Knowing the phenological characteristics of the species, as well as knowing their chemical diversity is of fundamental importance to draw up an adequate management plan. Thus, the objective of this review is the survey on the phenological aspects of the species of chapéu-de-couro, as well as its chemiodiversity.
