Resumen
This dissertation presents an analytical and interpretative study on the songs Foi Bôto, Sinhá!, Uirapuru, Nayá e Japiim, for voice and piano. These four songs were written by Brazilian composer Waldemar Henrique (1905 - 1995) and are part of the Amazonic Legends series. Adiscussion will be presented on the fact that the music of W. Henrique is placed between the popular and classical music and on the question whether the Amazonic Legends are, indeed a series of songs or a cycle. Through examples of recordings and testimony by WaldemarHenrique, it will be shown the importance of doing a previous study on the meaning of the words that compose his songs in order not to commit any mistakes in their performances. A brief approach will be made on voice placement, diction and pronunciation in Brazilianchamber music and suggestions for the four interpretative studied songs will be given. The literary, musical and auditive analyzes provide us with subsidies to ensure a consistent interpretation of the songs. Within this dissertation there is a first edition of the score of the song Japiim, since the original score remains in manuscript, in poor shape and not availablefor consultation. A new edition of Nayá will also be shown.
