Resumen
With the presentation of Nonsuicidal Self-injury Disorder (NSSID) criteria in the fifth version of the Statistical and Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), empirical studies have emerged to evaluate such criteria in children and adolescents. Since TALNS is a new diagnosis and considered a condition for further studies, it is critical to gather information on the suggested criteria concerningprevalence rates, characteristics, clinical correlates, and potential for independence and distinction from other psychiatric disorders. The present study is cross-sectional and retrospective and analyzed epidemiological and clinical data of 29 patients aged 8 to 17 years with diagnosis of TALNS from the Hospital of the Federal University of Espírito Santo. Most of the patients was female and used sharp objects to self-mutilate. The main diagnosis found in these individuals was Mood Disorders and the majority of the sample had a history of previous suicide attempt, which shows that this population presents a high risk of death due to the episodes of autoaggressiveness that are susceptible.
