Resumen
The activities as a doctor of the Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF) in Cajuri - a town with 4000 inhabitants, located 243km from Belo Horizonte shown an excessive demand for omeprazole by the patients. With the intention of developing an intervention project, to reduce the inappropriate use of omeprazole in the city, a literature review was performed, including pharmacology of omeprazole, its indications, the adverse effects and the diseases related to it. Were used the following keywords: omeprazole, dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer and proton pump inhibitors. Based on the Planejamento Estratégico Situacional Simplificado methods for health actions by Campos, Faria e Santos (2010), was collected data about the problem and was developed a plan of action to intervene at "critical nodes". The survey estimated that among people seeking the health clinic and that are linked to team II, 9.1% used omeprazole. Of these, 92.8% did it for prolonged periods, which are not predicted in the literature, and 17.8% did it in inadequate dosage. It was noted that most people in the town have no information about the issue and have lifestyles that comprise risk factors for diseases in which omeprazole is indicated, for example: high consumption of coffee, smoking, alcoholism, sedentary lifestyle, high use of anti-inflammatory, diet with high fat consumption, among others. Furthermore, the pharmacy must adjust its omeprazole dispensing process, as well as, in some cases, doctors need to review their prescriptions. The omeprazole, belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors of the gastric mucosa, indicated for the treatment of dyspeptic syndrome and its causes, gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcers and eradication of H. pylori. It is responsible for much of the income from pharmaceutical companies in the country and in the world, what perhaps justify the lack of studies on alternative treatments and adverse effects of its misuse. This paper proposes an approach through educational meetings, distributing leaflets, adjustments in the drug dispensing process, and motivation to refresher courses for professionals, in order to combat the lack of information, reduce the risk factors present in the population and also adjust how the prescriptions of omeprazole are done by doctors of Primary Health Attention in Cajuri/MG.
