Resumen
Issues regarding transport infrastructure, such as traffic jams, pollution generated by gas emission and accidents, are constant problems faced by several cities around the globe, and Belo Horizonte is no exception to that. The city presentes one of the worlds worst urban mobility rates, due to the increasing number of individual vehicles on the streets and the terrible conditions of local public transportation apparatus. Facing this scenario, Belo Horizonte started investing in sustainable actions inside urban mobility, notably with the development of its Urban Mobility Plan in 2013, which suggests, among others, promoting the development and use of new, more reliable and environmental friendly Technologies in public transportation. Trying to bring the concepts of sustainable urban transformation noticed in similar cities, and fitting them to a local reality, this study aims on developing a photovoltaic system on the roof of BRT stations along Belo Horizonte, which would be capable of charging a fleet of electric buses, checking, at the end, the reduction of environmental impacts provided by this alternative when compared to the traditional diesel-based bus fleet.
