A psicoeducação aplicada a um caso de adoção de uma adolescente com TEPT decorrente de abuso sexual

Abstract

This study aims to verify whether psycho education applied for a Foster mother of a teenager with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), decurrently of sexual abuse, the treatment contributed to improve the mental health of the victim. This proposal was based on the assumption that the foster mother had no information on the consequences of sexual abuse and on the development of PTSD. Acquiring the knowledge on this could help on the treatment of the teenager victim of abuse. The treatment was performed at first time with both and then each other on a separate schedule. The work was done based on the cognitive psychotherapy theory as the used method, using the specific study of this case. The person (female individual) was a 40 years old, Black, middle class, Brazilian Adoptive (Foster) mother of a 13 years old Brazilian teenager lower class. During the working period with the Foster mom, psycho education was performed, which means all gather information was given about sexual abuse, why it happens and what are the consequences for it. It was also explained about PTSD, what the symptoms are and how it is manifested itself. The conclusion of this work was a better understanding for the Foster mom related to this phenomenon, having a better relationship between the two. (Foster mom and abused teenager).
