The objective of this research was to develop a model to assess the level of maturity of the organizational capabilities of Business Intelligence & Analytics for the retail, wholesale and Brazilian distributors. For the development of the maturity level assessment model, the Developing Maturity Models for IT Management - A Procedure Model and its Application methodology was adopted. Therefore, a literature review was carried out in order to identify and review the evaluation models of the level of maturity existing in the area of Business Intelligence & Analytics. Soon after, the initial version of the model was elaborated based on the literature review. Through interviews with eighteen professionals from the sector and the Information Technology (IT) area, the model was refined and the final version was defined. In addition, to develop and validate the research scales, face and content validation was performed with academics, professionals and users of Business Intelligence & Analytics tools. Finally, the model was tested through a survey with companies in the retail sector, wholesale and Brazilian distributors to investigate the relationship between the level of maturity and the sustainable competitive advantage and frame the participating companies in the scoring ranges and maturity levels of the model. The data were analyzed initially by means of exploratory factor analysis and, then, using hierarchical component models. The results show a significant and positive relationship between maturity level and sustainable competitive advantage. In addition, when analyzing the results, it is noticed that the majority of the companies that integrate the sample of this research presents a high level of analytical maturity. This research contributes to the academic area with the advancement in knowledge about analytical maturity and evaluation model of maturity level. It responds to the demand for a theoretically based tool that assists companies in the challenge of using Business Intelligence & Analytics and obtaining sustainable competitive advantage. The model for assessing the maturity level makes a practical contribution, helping companies in the industry to assess their current level of analytical maturity as well as providing a guide for companies to extend their level of maturity related to their analytical capabilities.
