Resumen
The production of water for public supply, conducted by Station Water Treatment Itaguara is responsible for the generation of sludge, originated in the removal of suspended particles in raw water with the use of coagulants, by processes of sedimentation and filtration. Currently, the fate of the sludge accumulated in the decanter the Stream Conquista, which is released without any treatment is performed. This provision has become a constant concern in view of the negative effects to the environment provided when they are disposed of improperly. The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of recycling and final disposal of waste through a characterization of the sludge and the estimated volume of sludge produced at the station. It was found that the sludge production in Itaguara station, is suffering from a lack of monitoring of coagulant dose applied, producing a greater load of silt. Considering the concentration of metals found in sludge, its reuse becomes feasible in the recovery of degraded area and as daily cover for landfills.
