Resumen
Aiming to understand the sporting practices developed at school, this study is oriented by the following issues: what do sporting practices fulfill the aims of teachers and students at school? How do they participate in those practices? What are the restraining and facilitating factors of that participation? What meanings do they attribute to those practices? The analysis of those problems had as reference the universe of "high performance sports" along with its valves and principles, and the "school's sport", claimed by the critical discourse of the Physical Education. The methodological approach was characterized as a case study, it was orientated towards na ethnographical perspective, having as locus of analysis a public school of the city of Belo Horizonte. The procedures used for collecting the data were direct observation, interview, focal group's discussion, and documental analysis. It cames out of the analysis the complex character of those schools sporting practices, which reveals being full of inclusions and exclusions as in a continual process, either orientated by principles and valves of "high performance sports", or creating different sporting practices of the school it self. Of the different meanings attributed to the sporting practices it came out the following: the sport as a means of learning valves, rules and attitudes; way of incorporating of habits needed at reeping good health and body aesthetics; possibility of establishing social relations; ludicrous living in partnership with others.
