Resumen
This study seeks to optimize the use of geoprocessing techniques and tools for the analysis of material cultural heritage, understanding the geospatial and temporal dynamics of Miguel Burnier, which is the largest district in the municipality of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Cultural heritage constitutes an obstacle to economic growth in iron ore mining regions known as Quadrilátero Ferrífero in Minas Gerais, during the expansion of large-scale mining activities in the last decades, and its related consequences to large-scale environmental impacts have provoked numerous conflict situations. The analyzed technical environmental feasibility studies for environmental licensing tend to disqualify such cultural references in order to promote various ways of embellishing their importance to national memory and history. Thislatent contradiction directly influences the forms of knowledge, dissemination and protection of cultural heritage. And, in order to promote a counterpoint to the interpretation, diffusion and safeguardingof the cultural heritage using the references and significance of the studied community district, an example of the application of geoprocessing tools in interaction with historical cartographies of the locality under study will be looked into. The multiple temporalities of cultural heritage, especially archaeological and architectural assets, interact and contrast in a complete way with the variable territorial configurations which can be visualized, for example, through the use ofseveral platforms of Geographic Information Systems that are able to combine and discriminate the interfaces of representations of the reality. In addition, analysis of this study treads the concept of landscape ecology where heterogeneity exists for at least one parameter, a specific observer and on a particular scale through the eyes of other species or communities from an ecological perspective. As such, data treatment through geospatial analysis and transdisciplinary approach can be a conjunction of tools capable of unveiling rationality determined by the capital logic by challenging the hegemonic discourses that influence the canonical form of the territory reading and comprehension.
