Resumen
This paper contributes to the discussion on financial losses in industries caused by harmonic distortions. It presents a simple and direct application of calculations and measurements obtained in the field. The goal is to quantify the losses caused by harmonics aimed at specific studies in which great accuracy is not required as, for example, in the analysis of economic viability. The main focus is on the losses modeling and quantification in squirrel-cage motors, due to their great importance in the industrial context. In order to enable a more direct application of the whole harmonics theory and related losses, models described in technical literature were adapted and transcribed in the text. Explanations from the author and from other sources, providing a compilation of data related to the quantification of harmonic losses, are also provided. In order to validate the models and equations, a case study is presented. This case study is based on two motors connected to a point of common coupling (PCC) in a local industry, where the voltage waveform distortion was characterized. The results obtained formed the basis for four theoretical scenarios, focused on demonstrating the feasibility of continuing studies.
