Resumen
The following text analyzes part of the documentation from the Gold Museum (Sabará – Minas Gerais) in order to investigate how the formation of the exposed collection took place. In the process of revealing the connection between memory and forgetfulness present in the expositions I emphasize the historical museum from its antiquarian tradition and claim that the musealized material culture is a powerful tool for history teaching. The teachers have at their disposal a diverse range of objects, images and sceneries which are richly structured and could be related to the school’s curriculum by proposing questions about history and memory during the mining period. The musealized material culture opens up the possibility of a sensitive experience in a learning process related to significant social issues.
