Resumen
There are several alternatives for chronic wounds treatment that infer the requirement of
scientific and technical knowledge of the nurse to decide on the most suitable product. For
topical treatment of critically colonized or infected wounds, the use of products / coatings
with antimicrobial properties is suggested; options are the ones containing iodine. This
present research aims to classify topical effects of products with iodine sold in Brazil for
chronic wounds treatment and advice for their use.In order to achieve it, it was demonstrated
on practices based on evidences to carry out critical analysis of research results. The proposed
methodology was the integrative review that obtains responses on the summary of these
evidences. The sample of this review is based on eight articles known by the search strategy
in the databases LILACS, IBECS, BDENF, MEDLINE, COCHRANE, SciELO and CINAHL
and that met the inclusion criteria. Following the analysis of the articles, the results have
shown that, if you intend the cure, the control of critical colonization or infection, the PVPI
(solution) is less effecient compared to other products; iodine cadexomer is recommended for
these situations and PVPI mesh advance debridement of necrotic tissues or slough and heal
when there is only granulation tissue. It was concluded that cadexomer iodine and PVPI mesh
are options of reliable and effective topical that give clinic professional a wider range in the
market. Other experimental studies are required to be compared to other regional products in
order to identify cost-effectiveness.
