Resumen
Introduction: Lajinha is a city in Minas Gerais, with 19,609 inhabitants, acting on UBS Santa Terezinha, I could see a high consumption of drugs "controlled" by the population, especially benzodiazepines. There is an irregular and without accompanying use of these medications. Diazepam 10mg and Clonazepam2 mg benzodiazepines are the most commonly used, available for the public. Rationale: I chose this theme because the approach to mental health is a challenge for primary care. There is a great demand of psychiatric care and use of benzodiazepines in the municipality of Lajinha. The deepening of knowledge on the subject may help health professionals to take adequate practices in this framework, and improve the quality of life. Objective: To address the misuse of benzodiazepines in elderly people in Lajinha / MG. Methodology adopted was a narrative review of published articles on the topic. Population data were obtained through a quick diagnosis of the unit records and records of the families of each community health agent. Results: After identifying the problem, along with the team at UBS Santa Terezinha, try to reduce this unnecessary consumption of benzodiazepines. Removing these medications must be programmed gradually makes use of antidepressants and anxiolytic sleep inducing action, reducing 25% of the dose per week until full withdrawal of medication. The support and psychosocial support are essential for successful weaning. Final Thoughts: The indiscriminate use of benzodiazepines is due to low level of knowledge and awareness of the population, lack of adequate control and involves not only users, but doctors who prescribe without adequate and pharmacists who dispense without prescription criteria. Interventions in health education and control are key to improving the quality of mental health and reduce irregular and unnecessary use of medications.
