Resumen
This study aimed to do a literature review of the biomechanics and
epidemiology of most common injuries in the sport of tennis players of all levels
(recreational and competitive). The literature found that the most common
injuries in tennis players of all ages are muscle and ligament strains or sprains
of upper and lower limbs, and trunk muscle injuries. These injuries have
multiple causes depending on the degree of development of physical qualities
and fitness level of the athlete in sport. The results of epidemiological studies
have shown that the highest incidence of injury is in the lower limbs. However,
most studies in the biomechanics of the sport is focused on the upper limbs,
especially the shoulder and elbow, which requires further research into the
biomechanics of the lower limbs. The role of the physiotherapist of the sport is
to know the most common injuries during the performance of the sport gesture,
which are caused by the game mechanics and biomechanics of the athlete.
This would establish levels of prevention and treatment according to the
athlete's condition.
