The present work addresses, in a general manner, the process of Mine Closure, conceptualizing it, verifying its implementation stages and management tools, more specifically the Mine Closure Plan, listing its essential items, as suggested by several international institutions The mine closure is part of the project as a phase of life in the mining project, where the main objectives are to consolidate the public health and safety are not compromised in the future and that environmental resources are not exposed to further physical deterioration, and chemical or biological. The concepts and procedures relating to mine closure are expanding rapidly in terms of scope and responsibilities of key stakeholders, including government, business, impacted communities and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), financial institutions, credit and other components of civil society. It is presented the concepts of some terms commonly found in the work relating to the subject mine closure. Emphasize the main causes that can direct to closure, the types of closure that may occur and the steps part of this process. The main environmental, economic and social, impacts from the mine closure process are countries. This work becomes important, since it contributes to the dissemination of best practices for developing a Mine Closure Plan, after concluding that despite advances in sustainability in mining, Brazil still leaves to be desired at this stage of the life cycle a mine. At the end, they recommend are some issues related to the event, such as suggestions for future work.
