Resumen
.Diabetes Mellitus refers to a set of metabolic disorders resulting from defects in insulin action or secretion, or both, resulting in hyperglycemia (SOCIEDADE BRASILEIRA DE DIABETES, 2016). Worldwide, this disease affects approximately 425 million people, and in Brazil, the diabetic population was estimated at 12.5 million individuals in 2017, placing the country among the four countries with the most cases in the world. The aim of this study was to identify the profile of individuals with diabetic foot injuries, treated at the Wound Prevention and Healing Center of a private hospital in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 2018. This is a descriptive research. , transversal and prospective. Data collection was carried out in a wound healing center of a private hospital in Minas Gerais. Specifically, with regard to diabetic foot injuries, there was a predominance of elderly people, aged between 51 and 80 years, male, white, married, retired, overweight and with a time of seven to twelve months of injury. In the search for the relationship between the variable “type of injury” and other qualitative variables, we found an association between type of injury (all injuries, not specifically diabetic foot injuries) and gender, age and duration of injury. In the population studied, the prevalence of patients with diabetic foot lesions was 27.5%. The increasing number of individuals affected by DM also leads to an increase in cases of complications from the disease. Diabetic foot injury is one of the most common chronic complications and affects about 15% of patients with DM throughout their lives, occurring, on average, after 10 years of DM evolution. population. Given this, and as it is an avoidable condition that greatly affects the quality of life of patients and brings great social and economic impacts to society, through this study, we seek to identify the profile of individuals who developed this type of injury. This information is essential for the development of early intervention strategies in order to prevent their occurrence.
