dc.description.abstractTo determinate areas and years periods where exists higher infection of american cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) in the city of Ilhéus, cocoas region of the state of Bahia, information from registered cases covering the 5-year period from 2000 to 2004 were processed over a digitalcartographic system by techniques of geoprocessing and spatial analysis. Descriptive statistics of socioeconomic and demographic data showed the profile of infected people, while spatial statistics recognized clusters areas of the illness, and identified areas of increased infection risk inside the municipal urban area. The risk maps generated could be used by the health agencies to monitoring ACL, permitting the evaluation of preventive strategies and control the disease in the urban area of the city.
