Resumen
A survey of the tree community, topography and soils was carried out in 6,04 ha of permanents plots laid on seven fragments of upper montane rain forest, all above 1590 m of altitude, located in the municipalities of Gonçalves and Camanducaia, southern extreme of both the Mantiqueira Range and Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The survey registered 12,059 individuals belonging to 192 species distributed into 102 genera and 55 families. The most representative families in terms of species richness were Myrtaceae (29), Lauraceae (22), Asteraceae (13), Euphorbiaceae (7), Rubiaceae (7), Fabaceae (7), Melastomataceae (5) and Symplocaceae (5). Interactive canonical correspondence analyses indicated that the species distribution is primarily related to soil fertility in mineral nutrients and to topographic heterogeneity.
