Resumen
In the past years there has been a great increase in the number of surgeon-dentists (SD) included in the primary attention. These professionals lead the leaves of absence from work due to temporary or permanent inability, which explains why it is important to better understand the main occupational diseases (OD) that affect them. This research aimed to describe the main occupational diseases (OD) that affect surgeon-dentists and their causative agents in the Equipe de Saúde da Família (Family Health Group) context. An analysis of the scientific production about the topic was developed. Articles in Portuguese and English related to the period from 1978 to 2010 were selected. The main diseases identified were: musculoskeletal disorders, stress, noise-induced hearing loss (N-IHL), mercury contamination, hepatitis and dermatoses. From the bibliographical research, it was concluded that no study regarding the incidence of any of the occupational diseases studied was found in SD included in the primary attention groups. By means of studies with SD performed in Brazil and in other countries, it can be noticed that the prevention of most OD is related to: good conditions in the work facilities; professionals immunization; the use of personal protection equipment; influence of emotional factors or the own SDs attitudes.
