Resumen
Pressure injury is conceived, in the public health scenario, as a problem and an indicator of the
quality of care provided, being an adverse event that results in damage to health. It is the
responsibility of the nursing team to provide assistance aimed at the prevention and treatment
of pressure injuries, considering that preventive actions avoid suffering for the patient and
family, as well as unnecessary expenses for the institution. The present study aims to understand
the perception of nurses regarding direct care to patients who are at risk or who have pressure
injuries. This is an exploratory descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The setting was a
private hospital in Belo Horizonte, with nurses from the inpatient and intensive care units as
participants. Data collection took place through a semi-structured, recorded interview, using
the guiding question: "What is your perception, as a nurse, about pressure injuries and its care
in your daily work?" The analysis was based on content analysis and allowed the results to be
grouped into three categories: Pressure injury: an adverse event that depends on nursing care;
Continuing education as a means to prevent pressure injury and Facilitating and hindering
factors in pressure injury care. It is concluded that nurses identify the need for specialized care
for patients with pressure injuries and emphasize the need for training of the nursing staff in
this area. In addition, this study allowed the collaborators themselves to reflect consciously on
how they develop their work. Thus, based on this knowledge, it is expected to be able to assist
in the process of care for pressure injuries, their prevention and improvement in the quality of
care provided.
