Resumen
The pelvis and the lumbar spine have straight relationship between themselves. Movements
on sagittal plane change each other and they are influenced by the musculature that surrounds
them, like abdomen, gluteus, hamstrings, erector spinae and hip flexors. The purpose of this
study is to verify the relationship between lengthening (flexibility) and stiffness (strength) of
the hip muscles and the posture of the pelvis and the lumbar spine of a person. Methods: 10
articles were chosen to be verified by searching in the databases Medline/Pubmed, LILACS
and SciELO. There have been chosen only those in English or Portuguese, and there are two
experimental studies and eight observational ones. Results: There is a disagreement between
the articles about the correlation between the muscles studied and the pelvic tilt and/or lumbar
angle. Some authors observed the relationship between the decreased strength and/or
increased flexibility of abdomen, gluteus and hamstrings and the increased anterior pelvic tilt
or lumbar angle, or even the relationship between the increased strength and/or decreased
flexibility of erector spinae, hip flexors and hamstrings and the same segments. Although,
others studies didn’t find results statistically significant. Conclusions: More experimental
studies are needed, especially aiming the stiffness of the musculature instead of separated
components as strength and flexibility.
