This paper presents the development of a protocol for dental visit to mental health patients served by the dental surgeon of the Family Health Strategy Santa Cruz, the city of Carmo do Paranaiba, Minas Gerais. It also describes the main aspects of the psychic apparatus and its amendments, as well as diagnosis, use of neuroleptics and their major adverse effects. The main objective is to highlight the importance of using a form to screen for patients most in need of psychiatric care and dental care through dental visit, aimed at a comprehensive care and multidisciplinary care. The methodology used was a literature review on issues relating to Mental Health in Family Health Strategy, the importance of dental care and neuroleptic drugs. Articles study identified the importance of the principles of the Health System, universality, equity and comprehensive care also seeking to emphasize the importance of multidisciplinary work in the ESF and the role of the dentist as a member of the team, as well as innovative service that can be given to patients with mental disorders, primarily through the elaboration of a protocol that guides the action. The literature reviewed highlights the importance of identifying the adverse events occurring by neuroleptics and the need for dentists in the presence of primary health care staff.
