Resumen
This study aimed to determine the residence time of spermatozoa in the sperm-storage tubules (SSP) and the infundibularum tubules (ITs) cutting quail, Coturnix coturnix coturnix, using 26 males and 117 females in the reproductive phase. Initially the animals were divided into two lots, the 1st batch, comprising 12 females and 77 males, and the 2nd batch of 14 males and 40 females. Females of the 1st batch were divided into 10 groups and mated for 24 hours in individual cages. After this period the males used so merged, were separated from females and placed at rest. The procedure adopted for the slaughter of the cows was as follows: control group G0 (n = 6 females) were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment, G1 (n = 6 females) were slaughtered at 6 days (144 hours) after mating, G2 ( n = 6), slaughtered at 5 days (120 hours) after mating, G3 (n = 6) killed on day 4 (96 hours) after mating, G4 (n = 6), killed on the 3rd day (72 hours ) after mating; G5 (n = 6), killed on 2nd day (48 hours) after mating and G6 (n = 6), slaughtered on day 1 (24 hours) after mating. The fragments obtained from the utero-vaginal region and the infundibulum were subjected to histological techniques, immunohistochemistry and morphometry routine. The 2nd batch of quails were divided into 3 groups of 10 females and they were mated for 24 hours. After this period, males were also separated from females. Eggs of these females were collected for fifteen days and incubated to check fertility. Subsequently, these groups were restructured to be formed by passing 12 females each. The procedures used for mating were: 1M: 2F G1, 1M: 3F G2 and 1M: 4F in G3. The results showed that spermatozoa remain stored in the oviduct for up to 10 days after mating, with sperm stored in SSPs until the 5th day after mating. These ascend toward the ITs, where they remain viable and fertile for at least 96 hours after leaving the SSPs, allowing these birds to lay eggs fertile. The coverage is better management of 1M: 3F quail in Europe, where there was a decrease in the number of losses in breeding and fertility of eggs was similar to the handling of 1M: 2F adopted by the multipliers.
