Resumen
This study analyzes how the personal pronouns I and you are specificallyemployed in newspaper cartoon textuality, considering the intermediate conceptof enunciation modes. Upon the analysis of nine cartoons published in Istoémagazine and the Estado de Minas and Folha de S. Paulo newspapers, it wasconcluded that the multi-referential enunciation mode attributes the peculiar useof these pronouns in a regular and predominant manner. Additionally, throughout the analysis, the specific and generic enunciation modes were notedas responsible, on a lesser scale, for orientating the relation between I andyou and journalistic textuality. These analyses were based on two theoreticalperspectives. First, an attempt was made to show through Enunciation HistoricSemantics that established multiple scopes of references in the use of pronounsare not related to identified different aspects of an object in the world, excludingwhat was symbolized by the language concerning those historicized subjects inconflict to a diversity of sayings and meanings, regimented into inter-discourse,and also symbolized in the cartoons present time. Through the secondtheoretical perspective, the Semantic of Norms, an attempt was made todemonstrate that each employment of the referred pronouns, observed in eachcartoons context, only gains pertinence when they were considered in theirrelation to other cartoons which is what Rastier (1998, 2000) and Rastier;Pincemin (1999) call corpus (text genre). In this present study, six aspects arehighlighted: theme, authorship, co-occurrence of multi-referentiality and otherenunciation modes, social spheres, and the enunciative role that eachcartoonist-subject customarily portrays in order to turn the cartoon into aneffective text in the realm of Opinion Journalism.
