Resumen
Introduction: Surgical procedures for the treatment of breast cancer and adjuvant therapies also generate malfunctions in the ipsilateral upper limb of the patient, such as nerve damage, lymphedema, weakness, pain and limited range of motion (ROM). The reduction ADM is one of the most reported by patients and, thus, result in limitations in their daily life activities. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of exercise therapy for the improvement of ADM after surgery for breast cancer, considering the time of early intervention, the intensity and type of exercise. Methods: A literature search was conducted in the databases: PubMed, LILACS, PEDro and EMBASE. The quality of the trials was assessed using the PEDro scale scores. Results: We included 12 articles involving a total of 884 individuals. The onset time of action ranging from the first day to 5 years after surgery. In 92% of the studies were no differences between the groups. The intervention ranged between 5 and 90 minutes, 1-7 days per week. Study quality was assessed by the PEDro scale with an average of 5 points. Discussion and Conclusion: Despite training protocols have been varied in terms of type, duration, frequency and early period, the results of this attested systematic review that therapy exercise is beneficial for ADM top member, especially for flexion and abduction, post radical mastectomy patients. These results emphasize the importance of exercise therapy institution for these patients in order to maximize the ADM of the ipsilateral upper limb surgery.
