This thesis presents a descriptive and longitudinal statistical analysis of the absenteeism of early childhood and elementary schools teachers of the Belo Horizontes Department of Education, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, from 2011 to 2014. The research was based on medical leaves that was authorized by Occupational Medicine Department of Belo Horizonte City Hall, one-day leaves and unexcused absences. Some sociodemographic variables as age, gender and professional time as teacher were introduced to the database. The results showed that teachers absenteeism is a very common and widespread phenomenon all long the period of this study. Elementary school teachers, women and teachers aged 40 to 49 year old leaved work more frequently and affected absenteeisms rates. A half of teachers caused about 10% of job leaves while a quarter of teachers caused about 77% of work leaves. Medical and one-day leaves were the most commonly used justifications, caused 80% of total work absence in schools. The behavior of job leaves also responded to the dynamics of school organization, climate conditions and social life. The analyses confirmed that there are different motivations, dimensions and reasons that produce absenteeism and its multifactoriality, as shown in the many previous studies. Finally, we engaged a dialogue with Ergology and teacher absenteeism, trying to understand the connections between teachers, their work activity, job leaves and the use of oneself by oneself and by others, the dramatics due the debates of norms, as time of life regulation in/at work and out of work.
