Ação educativa com profissionais para a qualificação da assistência de enfermagem ao recém-nascido na primeira hora após o parto de um centro obstétrico

The present intervention aims to contribute to the improvement of nursing professionals regarding good practices with the newborn during the first hour after childbirth. The intervention was performed in a Normal Delivery Center of a Regional Hospital, with 15 nursing professionals, among these five nurses and ten nursing technicians who work in the care of the newborn during the first hour of life. Five meetings were held, one on the morning shift, one during the evening shift and three on the night shift. A pre-test was developed with ten questions regarding the care of the newborn in the first hour of birth, addressing the ideal temperature for the delivery room, evaluation of the need for resuscitation, adequate time for clamping the umbilical cord, the initial steps for resuscitation, the need for positive pressure ventilation and chest compression, and routine care after the clinical stabilization of the neonate in the delivery room. The meetings were articulated in four moments, in which the first one consisted of the presentation and integration dynamics, afterwards the proposal and the objective of the intervention project were presented, after that the instrument was distributed and offered a time for completion, and then the topics questioned in the instrument were discussed, humanization in childbirth and postpartum, as well as assistance to the newborn, clarification of doubts and, finally, the intervention was evaluated and each participant explained about how the moment was, what was good and gave some suggestions. From the analysis, it was noticed that most of the professionals answered correctly about the subjects: umbilical cord clamping, ventilation by positive pressure and beginning of resuscitation. It was observed more difficulty of the professionals about the ideal temperature in the delivery room and the resuscitation procedure. Thus, the intervention provided the knowledge of the professionals ‘main limitations regarding care to the newborn in the first hour after delivery, which subsidized the development of the discussion. The recognition the professionals ‘main difficulties directed the approach of the intervention in order to work, above all, on the fragility of the assistance. It is emphasized the importance of interventions to update professionals that are developed in their work environment. The approaches described in the present study contributed in a unique way to the qualification of the participants, since it was possible to discuss relevant thematic of the nursing care and to solve the daily doubts.
