The wide use of double lumen catheter for hemodialysis and the incidence of bloodstream infection represent major challenges for health professionals. In this sense, the objective was to identify risk factors and standardized measures of prevention of bloodstream infection related to temporary double lumen catheter. For it, was made a review of the literature in the databases LILACS, IBECS, and BDENF MEDLINE of studies published between the years 2005 and 2010, with 13 selected studies in addition to the Guidelines for the Prevention of Intravascular Catheter-Related Infections 2011. Risk factors were found with the time of catheter remain in the site of implantation and emphasized the need to apply a set of preventive measures for infection control.
