Resumen
Considering that leukoplakia is the premalignant lesion which suffers the most malignant transformation, the study aims to better understand their behavior in the malignant transformation and oral cancer(CA) itself, since these premalignant lesions are present in up to 60% with the oral CA. The development of chemotherapy provides an opportunity to control the CA by noninvasive methods. The use of lycopene inhibits human oral cancer cells, inducing apoptosis. A case report of a patient diagnosed with clinical and histopathological oral leukoplakia initially measuring 4.5 cm treated with the use of lycopene from tomatoes at the Service of Stomatology, School of Dentistry, Federal University of Minas Gerais (FOUFMG) is presented.
