Resumen
This maters thesis aimed at the validation of some paritularities of the theory of the Sternberg Thinking Styles. Thus, it was possible to produce two studies namely: the first one investigates the structural and divergent validity of the legislative, executive and judiciary styles and, the second study investigates the incremental validity of these styles against the academic performance, and also the intelligence. The studies used an adapted version of the Sternbergs Thinking Styles Inventory, (1988), three skill tests which are part of a Set of Tests of Fluid Intelligence (CTIF), and to indentify the students academic performance, the study 2 used the quarterly grades of all subjects. Such instruments were applied in a sample of convinience with High School students from a public school in a city of the state of Minas Gerais. As an strategy of data analysis the modeling by the structural equation and exploratory factor analysis were used. Both studies showed a suitable adjustment to the data of the proposed models, with CFI near 0.95 and RMSEA smaller than 0.06. The study 1 showed evidences of structural and divergent validity. On the other hand, the study 2 indicated no evidence of incremental validity in the general factor of performance, but only on performance of the specific subjects.
