Resumen
Pivoting is an important tool for developing viable business models. However, the decision to pivot is difficult, it implies abandoning an initial startup idea, changing the initial business assumptions. Through a survey, data were collected by standardized online questionnaires, obtaining 109 valid responses from Brazilian companies. A multivariate regression analysis was used to test the study hypotheses. The survey results indicate that the more mature the performance metrics system used by startup, the less likely it is to pivot. Another factor that can determine the number of pivoting is the technology involved, in the sense that a startup that uses a lot of embedded technology in its business is less likely to pivot. The results obtained even though an entrepreneur's experience can help reduce the chances of pivoting, when the technology factor does not enter the equation. The findings of this research help entrepreneurs and professionals who are currently in the innovation ecosystem to add empirical knowledge to the Brazilian reality.
