Resumen
Temporomandibular joint ankylosis causes functional problems such as restricted mouth opening, impairment of speech, difficulty in mastication, poor oral hygiene, rampant caries, facial asymmetry, disturbances in facial and mandibular growth, malocclusion and acute airway involvement. This pathological condition is most commonly associated with trauma, local and systemic infections. Besides, it is also associated with systemic diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and untreated or improperly treated condylar fractures. Various surgical techniques for removal of ankilotic mass have been advocated for the treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis. Therefore, this work intends to do a review of articles and papers in the scientific literature that refer to the theme: temporomandibular joint ankylosis.
