Resumen
This research deals with the application of Information Technology resources on existing surfaces in urban public spaces. Our working hypothesis is that such surfaces can be technologically transformed to meet the specific demands of the users of those spaces. To investigate this matter we proceeded to a bibliographic review in order to illuminate the subject matter from different angles. Based on the theoretical subsidies, we cast contributions towards the design of so-called Urban Media Surfaces, a hypothetical model that would fulfil the project requirements of this research. In order to verify the validity of the present theoretical and methodological corpus, this was applied along with Architecture students under the graduate course Design in Public Spaces. The analysis of the projects developed within the referred course indicated that students who elaborated their works from design concepts and guidance set forth herein obtained, in general, better results than those who developed their projects without prior contact with this theoretical framework.
