Cervical cancer is a major public health problem, and according to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), the second most frequent type of cancer among women in Brazil. Despite this statistic it is known that the cancer of the cervix has diagnosis, treatment and prevention well defined and readily accessible. However, unknowingly and resistance to perform the Pap smears are important, generating higher rates of cervical cancer at 25 to 59 years. The present study aimed to review the literature to understand the reasons that lead to non-completion of the examination and propose strategies for women aged 25 to 59 years of Rio Paranaiba to adhere to screening. It is an integrative review search of the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). The sample consisted of 10 items and showed that the main factors that affect the implementation of preventive screening are of cultural origin, lack of knowledge about the importance and how is the collection of the exam. The municipality of Rio Paranaiba did not fulfill the goal of collecting preventive tests required by the home health program. Therefore, we analyzed the strategy for improving adherence and learn more about the preventive screening and cervical cancer, resulting in greater adherence to examination.
