Resumen
Demand for equipment to maintain acceptable efficiency and deterioration over the life
of a mine is the reality of the developers / equipment suppliers and their customers. For
the crushing operations, this quest is even more evident since these equipment are
known to be big, expensive and if it be poorly sized it can raise operating costs, lower
the plant's productivity besides currently are the largest energy consumers in the mineral
processing plants.
To achieve a balanced performance during the extraction of the whole ore mine, it’s
necessary have a detailed knowledge of the mineral raw material to be processed in the
ore processing plant and the equipment available in the market for right-sizing. Another
important point to keep efficiency at a satisfactory level, would be the development of
new equipment using new technologies expanding the coverage in regard to service to a
wider range of ores, hardnesses and grain sizes in order to fill the gaps opened by
changes in the characteristics throughout the extraction.
At this work will be addressed a changing situation in ROM’s characteristics during the
extraction of a mine to evidence the influence that these changes have on efficiency,
wear and aspects of the fragmentation equipment.
The fragmentation mechanisms, the operation principles and the energy aspects related
to them will be addressed.
