dc.description.abstractThe current research discusses the mysteries involved in the relation between body and proper name in ORLAN’s artistical work. The research aims to understand how the emergence of a proper name enables the artist to develop new concepts of body. Therefore, the study was divided in four chapters analyzing the function of the body in her art. ORLAN subvert pre- existent orders, undermining scientific concepts, the aesthetics of her time and psychoanalysis itself. Hence, through her profane approach, it will be analyzed how her work is constituted throughout her encounter with psychoanalysis. Ultimately, it is discussed where psychoanalysis theories stands when facing ORLAN's multiple images.
