Resumen
Objectives: To compare clinical, radiographic results and complication rates of labral reinsertion at the anterior edge of the glenoid with metal and polyester anchors in the anterior shoulder instability.
Methods: Case-control observational study, performed beetween 2014 and 2018. 62 patients who underwent arthroscopic treatment of anterior shoulder instability were evaluated and divided into two groups: case group (n=27), in which the soft tissue anchors were placed and control group (n=35), in which the metal anchors were placed. Clinical outcomes were assessed through Constant, ASES (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons), Rowe and UCLA (University of California-Los Angeles) scores. A radiographic evaluation was performed on the AP, Profile and Axillary views and compared between groups. The data obtained from both groups were compared using Pearson's chi-square test for qualitative variables and non-stopped T-test (variables with parametric distribution) or Mann Whitney test (variables with nonparametric distribution) for the quantitative variables and significant differences for p <0.05.
Results: Patients in the metal anchor group had a statistically higher mean age and mean follow-up than the polyester anchor group with p=0.003 and p<0,0001, respectively. There was no difference regarding gender, side affected, number of previous episodes, number of anchors, complications, ROM, request tests and functional scores.
Conclusions: The use of metal or polyester anchors can be safely performed with high success rates and low complication rates. There were no clinical and radiographic differences between both methods, although there was a greater possibility of complications related to metallic anchors.
