The present study deals with the values in sport and Olympic values in social sports
projects. The aim of this study was to identify the values and countervalues that children
and adolescents participating in sports projects social attribute their sports practice and
knowledge about the Olympic values. To this end, we conducted interviews with 27
children and adolescents aged between 11 and 17 years, of both genders, participants of
social sports projects in the municipality of Barão de Cocais - MG. The interviews were
recorded and later transcribed verbatim. In interpreting the data, we used the technique of
content analysis. Based on the analysis of the results it was found that values learning the
sport, exercise, fun (pleasure), coexistence, friendship, respect, competition, teamwork and
self-esteem were identified by students as the most important in sports practice.
Corresponding of those who had been most frequently disrespect, intolerance and
indifference. Regarding knowledge about the Olympic values, we noticed the lack of
knowledge about the values proposed by the philosophy of Olympism. These results point
to the presence of social values such as coexistence, respect and friendship, reflected in the
sporting context and the presence of values represented by the sport competitions and learn
the sport. Regarding countervalues presented, there is a need for educational interventions
to minimize and reflect on these events against valuative. In this perspective, it can be
considered that the findings could serve as references for the development of methods and
teaching strategies that broaden the experiences and reflections of the values identified in
the group, and missing values in speeches.
