Resumen
There are cases where the vertical dimension of occlusion (DVO) to be changed. One is when there is severe tooth wear of the teeth. The clinical consequences observed in these patients when change occurs below are aged facial appearance, lack of interocclusal space for oral rehabilitation and difficulty pronouncing words with sibilant sounds like "S". The rescue of the vertical dimension of occlusion improves aesthetics, but above all, restoring function. The aim of this paper is to review the literature reporting clinically when and why to change the occlusal vertical dimension.
